"Beyond the Bell" Programs
Beyond the Bell” programs are based on a youth development strategy that builds self-confidence and self-esteem, and fosters a sense a belonging, competence, usefulness and influence. These programs engage young people in activities with adults and their peers to enable them to reach their full potential. Our programs combine a balance of structured and unstructured time to reach the full potential of all our members.Today, more than 700 boys and girls are taking advantage of the programs, activities and services provided by the Boys & Girls Club!

In addition to the key elements of "Beyond the Bell,” every member has an opportunity to participate in the following programs:
*Sports leagues & tournaments
*Recreational activities including: pool, table tennis and fooseball tournaments
*Gym games and activities
*Prevention Programs
*Leadership and volunteer opportunities
*Field trips & Incentive program

Key Elements of Beyond the Bell are the following programs:

Everyday after school, the B&G Club offers Homework Power Hours from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm. This allows every member to have the opportunity to do their homework in a separate room where they are able to work quietly.  The "homework room" is equipped with research materials, a full time instructor and a comfortable environment to complete all work assignments. Each member that works on their homework receives Power Points throughout the week. The member with the highest PowerPoint totals at the end of the month receives a prize for their hard work.

The Club's "Tech Center” features 10 internet ready computers, 4 brand new Windows 8 computers, for our members to enjoy. All our computers are equipped with technology that allows our members to only visit appropriate sites that are set by Club staff.
These programs are sponsored by Comcast.

SMART Girls is a part of our new Girls Empowerment
Initiative. This program offers young girls – ages 8 to 12 – guidance toward healthy attitudes and lifestyles, eating right, staying fit, getting good health care and more. Encouraging young girls to have healthy attitudes and lifestyles, SMART Girls helps them reach their full potential. Through dynamic sessions, group activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls enjoy the opportunity to build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care, and developing positive relationships. Torch Clubs are charter small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11-13. A Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their development. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.

Jr. Staff is a program that gives Club teens, ages 13-18, the opportunity to earn service hours. This program challenges the participant's to demonstrate a true desire to work with kids. The programs guidelines will be facilitated by a Club staff in a joint effort with the teens. It is the responsibility of each Club teen involved in the program to keep their own record of service hours. Hours will be accumulated by time spent with kids or volunteering at any Club special event. The hours earned will be tabulated and rewards will be given to students during the school year. Our goal is to prepare our teens for future jobs and professions by giving them a strong work ethic, an appreciation of being involved in their community and an opportunity to practice real life employer expectations.

This is a mentor/leadership program where high school students volunteer their time to spend with the youth of the community. Each high school volunteer is matched with a Club member with whom they share similar interests. While participating in the program, mentors and members will participate in fundraising, field trips, and relationship building activities. Big and little friends are responsible for attending planned activities every month and volunteering one-on-one time with their "friend” at the Club at least one additional time a month.  If you would like a "Big Friend" or would like to be a "Big Friend" then please email Nikki Tyler at

Project Learn is an educational enhancement program that reinforces the skills, knowledge, and tools that our members learn at school here at the Club. Project Learn is for all members who would like to engage in fun and academically beneficial activities. The staff will use all areas and programs of the Club to provide opportunities for high-yield learning activities.

Designed to incorporate healthy living and active learning in every part of the Club experience, Healthy Habits emphasizes good nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being.
The program, for ages 6 and up, is the Mind component of Triple Play: A Game Plan for the Mind, Body and Soul.

In 2015 the Boys and Girls Club began an all girls fitness group known as FITT (Females In This Together) which is open to any and every female at the Club. The group encourages and supports one another as they participate in different physical activities in the gym. The purpose of FITT was to provide gym time for only females and include activities specific to their interests. So far we have had activities including freeze dance, basketball, soccer, fitness classes and challenges, yoga and more! Our group continues to grow as we are averaging 30 girls weekly!
The Boys and Girls Club of Assabet Valley's FITT (Females In This Together) Group worked collaboratively to participate in the National Blue Door Decorating Contest. The contest is open to all Clubs nationally and is supposed to depict why and how great futures start behind the doors of each club. Our girls decided that their great futures to healthy and an active lifestyle began at the doors of our gym. Together they are going to "try, work, practice, believe and achieve" as they push each other to take as many shots in life as they can!
