EXPECTATIONS FOR THE

CENTRAL MASS.  BASKETBALL TRAVELING TEAMS

2011-2012

Please consider your child's basketball ability and family commitment before trying out for CMYBL Basketball Program.

If any player or parent has concerns or issues regarding any aspect of the team or league, please contact Wendy Allegrone-Leslie, Coordinator of the Central Mass. Boys & Girls Club teams, at (978) 461-2871.

Team & Leauges:  There will be one travel team per grade level for boys & girls in each of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades that will compete in CMYBL.

Practice & Games:  Once selected for a travel team, players will practice once or twice a week beginning in early November.  Games are held every Sunday beginning after Thanksgiving.

Registration Fees:  The fee for travel team participation is $110 per player and is due and payable at the time a player is selected to a travel team.  Plus players must be members of The Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley.  Membership is $40 for the 2011-12 school year.

Game Admission Fees Only out of town teams and parent will be charged admission this year.

Practices: All practices are mandatory.  Players are expected to attend each practice on time and ready to play.  Anyone unable to attend practice must inform the coach prior to that day.  Sick days are the exception.

IMPORTANT:  Players, parents, coaches and spectators are representatives of the Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley and should behave appropriately.  Everyone is expected to display good sportsmanship at all times.  Inappropriate behavior by coaches or players will result in a suspension from the team.  The number of games will be determined by the infraction.

Playing Time:  Due to the size of the teams and the competition of the Central Mass League, playing time is at a premium; therefore some players may see limited action.  Playing time will be based on skill, work at practice, and attitude among other things but coaches cannot guarantee equal playing time for all players.  It is very important that parents and players alike understand that playing time will vary to the coaches discretion.

~We are looking forward to a fun and successful season~

C.M.Y.B.L.  BYLAWS

Residency

·                     Your son or daughter must be a resident of the  Assabet  Valley area ( Stow, Maynard,  ConcordSudbury, and  Bolton).  Any player coming from outside Maynard must get approval from their Town Basketball League/Rec. Dept. or town representative before trying out for a B&GCAV team.

Age

Age requirements as follows:

5th grade: Born on/after April 2, 1995

6th grade: Born on/after April 2, 1994.
7th grade: Born on/after April 2, 1993.

8th grade: Born on/after April 2, 1992.

·         If a player is too old, s/he may play up a division.  However, a player may never play down a division, even if s/he meets the age criteria.

·         4th graders are permitted to try-out for the 5th grade travel team.

·         Players are not eligible to play up a division, unless we do not provide a team in their specific age group.  (Example 6th grade girl plays on the 7th grade girl’s team because we did not offer a 6th grade girl’s team.)

DOB Verification

·         All players must submit a photocopy of his/her birth certificate or passport with their registration material.  Do not have parents submit an original as it will not be returned to them.

Registration & Fee

·         Registration forms, DOB verification, and payments must be received prior to the team’s first game.  If any paperwork or fee is not received by the opening game, players will be deemed ineligible.

 ·         All players must be members of the Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley.

Try-outs

·         All potential players must try-out for a team.  Playing on a travel team last season does not guarantee a slot again this year.  Under appropriate circumstances, a player may be permitted to miss part or all of one try-out assuming notification has been given ahead of time.  An unannounced "no show” for a try-out may result in a player being dismissed from consideration for a team.

Team

·         After rosters are submitted by November 12, players may not be added to your roster. In extreme circumstances, the league may entertain requests to minimally alter your roster however these request must be brought fourth in writing and do not expect them to be approved if they may significantly alter your end of season record.

·         Teams may at their discretion dismiss players from their roster at any point during the season.

·         When submitted a team to the B&GCAV, rosters must include:

1.       Names, addresses, telephone numbers, and DOB’s for all players.

2.       Names, addresses, daytime/home/cell telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses for all coaches.

-          Please send rosters to me via an MS Word/Excel e-mail attachment.

Scoring & CMYBL website

·         Teams are responsible for submitting scores to the CMYBL and the B&GCAV following each game.

·         CMYBL website:  http://www.abbasketball.com. This will be your main source for information, driving directions, schedules, standings, results, etc. during the season. Please share the website address with parents and players within your program.

CMYBL Contact information

You and your coaches should always feel free to contact me. I check e-mail (josh.hammer@abbasketball.com) several times a day and that is the best way to get in touch with me. My cell phone is 617-320-8889 should you ever need to chat in real time. One request, however …. in "real life,” I work as a pilot and am based out of  Los Angeles. There’s a high probability that when you contact me, I’ll be in  California, so please keep the three hour time difference in mind and call only between 11am and midnight, Eastern Standard Time.
